Cinematic Brand Film | Roots for Dryllerakis Law Firm
Roots - Brand Film
ABOUT THE PROJECT
ROOTS is a cinematic brand film created for Dryllerakis Law Firm, to mark Athens taking over as host city for the TerraLex Global Meeting 2027.
The film was conceived for the official handover and presentation in Philadelphia, USA, introducing Athens and Dryllerakis Law Firm as the next hosts of the international TerraLex community.
We built the story around inheritance: how knowledge, principles and responsibility are formed over time, carried by people and ultimately passed forward.
Athens, law, ancient cultural heritage and the contemporary practice of the firm become parts of the same narrative, with the olive tree acting as a recurring symbol of resilience, continuity and legacy.
Creative Film Direction
Inheritance
One of the film’s central sequences was built inside the Dryllerakis Law Firm library.
Senior Dryllerakis, is introduced not through a formal portrait but through a simple action: moving along the library, looking through the books, selecting one and beginning to read. The sequence returns at the end of the film. He closes the book and passes it to Emmanouil Dryllerakis, who now leads the firm, precisely as the voice-over arrives at the idea of inheritance.
The entire sequence was filmed in black and white with a pronounced grain structure, separating it subtly from the contemporary colour imagery and giving it the feeling of memory rather than conventional corporate portraiture.
The gesture is deliberately restrained. Nothing is explicitly explained. The passing of a book becomes the passing of knowledge, responsibility and accumulated experience from one generation to another.
The olive tree as a visual language
The olive tree became much more than a symbolic image within ROOTS.
We specifically sought and filmed ancient olive trees in Athens, Megara and the Messenian Mani, all more than one thousand years old. Their age and physical presence allowed the central idea of continuity to exist not only in the narration but within the image itself.
Particular attention was given to the surfaces of their trunks: deep grooves, scars, folds and textures accumulated over centuries.
These forms became part of the film’s transition language. The camera moves from the grooves of ancient olive bark into the lines, edges and pages of books, connecting natural memory with written knowledge.
We developed transitions as part of the storytelling itself: bark becomes paper, carved surfaces become typography, roots become knowledge.
Voice and narrative
The voice-over was developed as a structural layer of the film, carrying the ideas that connect the individual sequences without simply explaining what appears on screen.
Beginning with the idea that in this landscape “reason transformed into law”, the text moves through judgment, knowledge, wisdom, trust and collaboration before reaching the idea of inheritance and the contemporary international world represented by TerraLex. Words such as λόγος, knowledge, virtue, trust, collaboration and inheritance therefore became both narrative ideas and visual cues for the direction of individual sequences.
The aim was for image and narration to meet without illustrating one another literally: the voice establishes the thought, while the cinematography finds a physical expression for it.
Process & Production
The project required the creative and production process to evolve in parallel.
Before filming, we developed the narrative structure, identified the key visual transitions and mapped the relationship between archaeological imagery, Athens, the office environment and the conference context.
Production was then organised around several distinct environments:
_Athens and archaeological locations
Architectural details, marble, inscriptions, landscape and contextual views.
_The Dryllerakis offices
Library sequences, legal books and documents, individual gestures, portraits, corridors and working environments.
_Collaboration and continuity
Senior and junior members of the firm, meetings, movement through the office and the symbolic transfer of the book between generations.
_TerraLex Global Meeting
Conference preparation, materials and the transition from the identity of the individual firm to its place within an international network.
The archaeological component also required a separate layer of coordination, permissions and scheduling with the relevant authorities. This influenced how locations and shooting windows were planned while the edit was being developed simultaneously, allowing the narrative structure to remain intact as the final material was completed.
Use & Communication
ROOTS was created for the presentation of Athens and Dryllerakis Law Firm as hosts of the TerraLex Global Meeting 2027.
Its first role is part of the official handover in Philadelphia, USA, where the international TerraLex community is introduced to the city and firm that will receive the following meeting in Athens.
ROOTS connects place, cultural inheritance, legal thought and contemporary international practice within the same narrative.
This gave the film a dual role: introducing Athens as the next setting for TerraLex while revealing Dryllerakis Law Firm through the values, history and continuity that shape its identity.
Outcome & Reception
ROOTS premiered in Philadelphia during the official handover of the TerraLex Global Meeting to Athens 2027, in front of delegates representing 140 countries.
The film received an enthusiastic response, completing its role as both an introduction to Athens and a statement of Dryllerakis Law Firm’s identity, heritage and international outlook.
