Benaki Museum – Patrick & Joan Leigh Fermor House | Kardamili, Mani
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Patrick and Joan Leigh Fermor House in Kardamili is a property of exceptional cultural significance. In 1996, Sir Patrick and Joan Leigh Fermor bequeathed the house to the Benaki Museum, with the intention that it serve as a place of study, intellectual work and residence for scholars and writers.
The estate consists of three stone buildings set within a Mediterranean garden extending towards the sea, forming a unified architectural and landscape ensemble. Public access is available during defined periods of the year, with operational support provided by Aria Hotels.
More information about the house is available through the Benaki Museum.
Production focus
We were commissioned to document the house from an archival and institutional perspective, with particular attention to the relationship between architecture, landscape and the traces of everyday life preserved within the property.
Interior and exterior spaces were photographed with attention to scale, patina, material character and natural light. The approach remained deliberately restrained, allowing the house to be recorded as a lived cultural environment rather than interpreted through added styling or visual intervention.
Use & Communication
The resulting images form a long-term documentary record of the property, supporting institutional communication, archival use, conservation documentation and controlled public presentation.
The photography was created to serve the house as both a cultural site and a place of memory, preserving its domestic, architectural and intellectual character within the wider work of the Benaki Museum.
This project is part of our Architectural and Interior projects.
